Summer?

This has been a very weird summer for the pacific northwest and it has wreaked havoc on our garden. To put things in perspective, we have used the heat off and on throughout the summer and today I have on my fleece! So far we have been luck enough to enjoy our lettuce, kale and most recently squash from the garden. In the green house we have ONE small tomato that is trying to turn red. The funniest thing is that Nick started some watermelon from seed and we actually have a couple of watermelons on the vine in the greenhouse. I was going to post pictures but Nick had a good point that no one else would be impressed. Maybe we will get enough heat and sun here at the finish line to actually get some fruit. Otherwise we will be focusing on greenhouse crops as we gear up for winter.

There is always next year!

Dresser

A couple weeks ago Nick helped a friend help someone move and they were giving away a dresser. Gunnar had been using the dresser I had growing up and it worked well but with his canging pad on top it was a tight squeeze. Now with the new dresser he no longer dangles off the edge when you are changing him which is so nice.

Here he is saying hi:

That's What Friends Are For

This post is a big THANK YOU to my wonderful friend Heather:
who was kind enough to invite me to her (not so secret) favor river spot this evening. Making friends as an adult is never easy. People are busy, friendship groups are already established, it is hard to meet people in your own living room etc but Heather has really gone out of her way to be my friend and I am very grateful.

Gunnar and I met Heather and her family at Wildwood this afternoon to lounge by the Salmon River and we had a blast. I didn't really plan on getting in but watching Heather ride the current like an otter was way too hard to resist. I got in clothes and all and it was just as much fun as it appeared to be (despite the freezing water). Like most new mom's my entire life right now seems defined by my child but for a few moments as I was floating in that current I will admit I felt like "the old me". I can't wait until Gunnar is big enough to swim in the river and enjoy the beautiful place we live! Here are some pics of us on the beach:

Life is good and I am thankful!

Taters!

Nick was out watering this morning and was sad to see that some of our potato plants had died. He decided to pull them up and found.....

They weren't dead, just done. YUM!

BFFs

Gunnar and I beat the heat (while daddy was out working in it - boo!) yesterday with his bestest girlfriend Morchella. Chella is almost exactly four weeks older than Gunnar which makes it really fun to see what developmental mile stone we have around the corner. Here they are enjoying the play-mat on the back porch.

No pics of Nick working, sorry!

Workin' for the Weekend

This week was my first back at work. That means a whole new routine and set of challenges for the entire family. Tuesday was my first day back and absolutely horrible. I cried on the way to work, at work and then practically got a speeding ticket trying to get home early. Ugh! Wednesday was better with a little more of a routine. Now I nurse Gunnar at his early morning wake up, get him back to sleep and quickly flee the house. That way I am at work early so I can leave earlier as well.

I have to give a huge kuddos to Nick as he and Gunnar have also been working out a routine and fairing very well. On Thursday I was blessed by a visit at work from my two favorite boys. I was away from my desk and can you believe my co-workers didn't even come get me?! They wanted to snuggle Gunnar all by themselves.

Nick has been texting me pictures all week so I can get my fix. Here they are:

Gotcha!

Gunnar's latest talent is his kung-fu grip. Here you can kind of see him throwing one down on teddy:

We went to the community garage sale today and he was amazing all the ladies with his amazing grip. Mommy's hair is definitely a favorite thing to grab as well.

His hand is making it more and more to his mouth these days as well which is encouraging. We are all very much looking forward to him having the ability to soothe himself.

Official Cart Inspector

Truck decided that he needed to give the Cub Cadet cart a closer inspection last night. It passed with flying colors!

Spic N Span

I made a super yummy asparagus, mushroom, snap pea and bison stir fry last night that Nick and I thoroughly enjoyed. Mack and Truck were kind enough to do the dishes:

Morning Rounds

This morning while Gunnar and I were doing our morning farm chores the dew was so beautiful on the strawberry plants that we had to share:

The picture really doesn't do it justice but I am sure you get the idea.

One of the wonderful things about our small town is that we have the most amazing neighbors! Here is Gunnar enjoying the rocking chair given to us this week by our neighbors:

Closeup for extra cuteness:

Notice the pillows? That is my idea of restoring a chair. Nick has big plans for it involving wood, sanding and such which will be amazing but for now it suits us just fine.
